The Texas Rangers have bolstered their starting pitching depth by acquiring left-hander MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals. This move comes as the Rangers seek to strengthen their rotation, which currently lacks depth after trading away several prospects. The deal, announced on Thursday, involves giving up five highly-rated prospects: shortstop Gavin Fien, infielders Devin Fitz-Gerald and Abimelec Ortiz, and right-handers Alejandro Rosario and Yeremy Cabrera. These prospects were all ranked among the Rangers' top 20, with Fien being the No. 2 prospect in the organization. Gore, who is in his second year of arbitration, is under team control through 2027, but the Rangers may only have him for one full season due to the uncertain labor situation after 2026. Gore has been a reliable starter for the Nationals, making at least 30 starts in each of the last two seasons and posting a 4.03 ERA over 326 innings. He has an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio, averaging 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Additionally, Gore's left-handedness is seen as an advantage, as the Rangers believe Globe Life Field has a slight bias towards left-handed pitchers. With the addition of Gore, the Rangers' rotation now includes Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, and either Kumar Rocker or Jacob Latz, who is also a versatile reliever.
